William Wilson of Wyeside Consulting Ltd was on the first panel of witnesses to give evidence on 30 January 2019 to the House of Commons Environment, Food & Rural Affairs Committee’s inquiry on Pre-Legislative Scrutiny of the Environment (Principles and Governance) Bill.
The Bill is the first part of a wider Environment Bill to be introduced in 2019. The first part, published in December 2018, sets out how it is intended that environmental principles should be applied to law in England, and would establish an Office for Environmental Protection to replace enforcement of environmental law by the European Commission and Court of Justice of the European Union, as a means of holding government and public bodies to account.
Other members of the panel giving evidence were Professor Maria Lee of UCL, David Woolf QC of Matrix Chambers, and Daniel Greenberg, Counsel for Domestic Legislation at the House of Commons.
