I am delighted to have started on 1 July 2024 a 6 month contract working at the Office for Environmental Protection (‘OEP’) – www.theoep.org.uk
“The Office for Environmental Protection is a non-departmental public body,
created in November 2021 under the Environmental Act 2021. Our mission is to protect and improve the environment by holding government and other public authorities to account. Our work covers England and Northern Ireland. We also cover reserved matters across the UK”.
The OEP scrutinises Environmental Improvement Plans and Targets, and environmental law, advises government on environmental law, and enforces against failures to comply with environmental law.
Its work is relevant to the environmental law functions of government departments, Ministers, regulators, local authorities and some private bodies with public powers and duties.
Working at the OEP is a chance to be totally immersed in the detail of what is making environmental laws work well, or not so well, and to learn from experienced colleagues, at a time of a lot of ‘change’ and when the functioning of environmental laws is under the microscope.
